As we get ready to bring in 2016 there’s more on our minds than just partying and having a good time, for many of us it’s a chance to make a fresh start to a new year and better ourselves in whatever we choose.
We all know Christmas is a time for indulging and enjoying ourselves and for many of us we tend to eat and drink far too much, then afterwards feel bad for it and want to lose weight and get fit.
For most people a new year’s resolution will be to diet and lose weight or hit the gyms to get fit. There is nothing wrong with this but even people with the greatest of intentions and motivation can fall off the wagon after a few months as they try to take on too much all at once. New Year’s resolutions such as these are about being specific and setting small, manageable goals that once achieved can be maintained and used alongside the next goal, until all goals are achieved.
Before starting any exercise programme or diet in the New Year ask yourselves some questions:
- Do I want to lose weight and tone up?
- Do I want to do something active to improve my fitness and make me feel better?
- How will I feel if I stick at it and achieve the results I want?
- How will I feel if I fail and what will I do about it?
If these question are answered positively then I think you are ready to take on the challenge of getting fit and healthy. If your answers are negative then I think you will fail after a short while and then maybe give up altogether. However, this isn't the case for everybody and I'm hoping you will prove me wrong.
I know many of you will join a gym to kick start your health regime as it’s the easiest option. Great, that’s a good start and if it works for you I wish you all the best.
However, having worked in many gyms over the 14 years of being involved in the fitness industry it’s sad to say I have seen more failures than successes.
It all starts with good intentions but after a month or two attendance dramatically reduces because we don’t get the support and motivation required to help us with our goals, we can’t get on the equipment or in the classes as they are too busy at the time you want to go, you won’t admit it but you don’t have a clue on what the best thing to do is or the best equipment to use, or quite frankly you get bored!
You then become stuck in long contracts which will leave you paying for something that you do not use.
Some of you will start jogging as it doesn't cost anything but how long will this last? If it’s cold you will stay in, again you get no support or motivation from anybody and you will just get bored!
Also jogging is rubbish for weight/inch loss but great to build up stamina for a running event or marathon.
We also have the mind-set that because we are training, whether it be a swim, power walk, jog etc. we can eat what we want because we will burn it off. This isn't the case! 80% of your results will come from your nutrition; training only helps speed things up.
There is a programme out there where you will get everything you need for just £12.50 per week though.
All-Star Academy is the complete package. It’s a fitness boot camp, or as I like to call it a weight loss programme.
My job as a lifestyle coach is to help men and women of all different age ranges, shapes and sizes and from all walks of life realise their goals and make permanent changes to their lives. Some people come to me to lose weight, others to tone up and increase their fitness and stamina and some just to do something productive with their lives. Whatever the reasons I am non-judgemental, I am here to help and guide them along their journey, help them get fantastic results and make sure we have fun along the way.
Not only do we provide fun but effective workouts 6 days a week, you also get the support and tools necessary to succeed. In addition to this there are always events to take part in, charity fundraising events and prizes to be won. We also have nights out and cooking classes at a local pub.
